How Global Powers Sacrifice Land and Life for Tech Dominance
Invade, negotiate, start a war?
Plot twist: world leaders are fighting over Greenland ancestral land like it’s a piece of meat. Anyone really surprised? This isn’t just about Trump, or Greenland. In a techno-industrial world, expansion is survival, and the rest of us are just collateral damage.
Today, all parts of the earth are divided between the superpowers. As the limits of growth become impossible to ignore, it is believed that those who claim the last remaining corners will have the upper hand in the end. In this race, Greenland is not only strategically critical to access the Arctic, with its resources and trade routes still hidden beneath the ice shield, but also one of the largest rare mineral reserves, that technological progress craves.
After 150 years of mining that depleted most resources, Greenland has turned to technology’s newest lust: rare-earth minerals. Essential to electronics and so-called “green” industries, rare earths are the chokepoint of endless industrial growth. With China controlling half of global reserves, the U.S. turns to extraction and coercion to keep its system alive.
We can see in Venezuela, Ukraine, and Greenland that international solidarity is simply a tool of the techno-industrial system’s biggest players. When international law stands in the way, all talk of humanism is abandoned. Only one thing matters: surviving and dominating this system. Facing China’s advantage, the U.S. turns to the easiest catch at its doorstep to expand its rare-earth supply, and does not shy away from doing dirty work.
And rare-earth mining is indeed dirty work. Rare-earth minerals are not really rare, but too expensive to extract in ways that won’t poison the environment. Miningin Greenlands vast reserves of Kvanefjeld is especially restricted, because of the harsh climate, a lack of infrastructure and environmental regulations that concern the radioactive byproduct uranium. Local opposition is to be expected, given the threat to traditional ways of life and the local environment. But this has never stopped the growth of the techno-industrial system.
Mining tears the earth apart, spreading radionuclides, metallic dust, and other contaminants. During refining, chemicals escape as gases or leach into the ground. The waste is left in tailings and stockpiles to rot, spreading toxins through soil and water and leaving the land permanently poisoned. What remains is a dead patch of the planet. In China, one of these places has been described as literally HELL ON EARTH.
What will become of Greenland? Technoracies will fight to the bitter end for global hegemony and “vital”resources. What is the death of people —whether from war or from the pollution of their land— to them but a sid effect in their power struggle?
The world suffers from invasions and wars that fuel technological progress. What do we get for it? Our bodies poisoned by industrial waste? Our land stripped apart for a can of Coca-Cola or the latest AI scam? ‘Greengrowth’ at the cost of a poisoned hell on Earth?
None of these wars and media stunts is new. Today it is Greenland, tomorrow Colombia. If it’s not Trump, it will be another technocrat who will wage this war against life. It’s time to stop watching the news repeat itself. Put an end to it.
FIGHT BACK. JOIN THE RESISTANCE!
